Forgive me. I'm a newbie of sorts. Humor me.

I have written several "custom" production reports with Crystal Reports 8.5 that are uploaded onto a web server and able to be selected with variable parameters applied by any user. I have had some success but lately, I have written some reports that should apply parameters supplied with pull down menus for the incidental user. They log in, select the custom report and depending on their need, select several parameters to be applied to my report for their data query. The problem is that the report takes an inordinate amount of time to run and eventually shows up with tons more data than was selected. I am not sure how to correctly phrase this question but I need some help badly.
The report runs perfectly with my record selection parameters from my desktop using Crystal 8.5 but craps out once loaded into the Crystal Report Viewer. Unfortunately, I don't have specific info on which Crystal Report Viewer is used. I'll take any and all comments on this.

I have a faq which should help with this:

faq767-3825

Setting up a Crystal Report in a web server isn't specific enough, you need to describe what software you're using to do so, reports don't just run because they're in a web page.

They key is to make sure that you're correctly passing the parameters, whether this is done by some front end code, or you are collecting them though the Crystal viewer.

There are many ways to accomplish this, it shouldn't be left to the crystal support community to guess at how you did it.

Did you use Crystal Enterprise?

ASP?

Check with the developers.

Thanks for the rapid response and the faq information. I must apologize for the lack of information. I am an end user trying to create queries on my workstation with Crystal Reports 8.5. I am able to log onto an Oracle database and build reports with little or no problem. The problem comes when I upload my report to my company's web application that utilizes a Crystal Reports Viewer to query that Oracle database. The parameters are collected through the Crystal viewer. Once the report is run, it takes sometimes several minutes to generate where it runs in seconds from my workstation connection. A couple of the reports evidently don't get the parameters passed through and they end up addressing every record in the database rather than just addressing the parameters selected. It has been suggested that my tables are incorrectly linked and that the SQL generated is highly inefficient. That may be true yet they seem to run efficiently as set up on my workstation.

If I leave the record selection criteria that was used to build the report, the uploaded report will only show the records I used to build it. I have had success by deleting the record selection formula and saving the report design before uploading it.

As an end user I don't have any access to the developers or knowledge of how the application runs. I can see that while navigating through the application, various .asp files are referenced. I also know that when exporting the "canned" reports resident in the application, ADO datasource is utilized while the only method open to me as an end user is an Oracle ODBC.

I don't know if this information is relevant but I am trying. I should say that I have sent several inquiries to the developers but they are non-responsive.

Thanks again for your help. I will try to apply your faq and see if it helps.

Hi,
Actually if you have ODBC, you also have native Oracle connectivity ( ODBC uses it underneath) , which is the preferred method of accessing Oracle data..In CR, select Oracle Server as the Connection type.

Without seeing how the web app passes the parameters to the viewer ( or what viewer is being used) , the will be no way to determine why some are not being passed.
