Windows 2000 Server
4 Zeon Processors 3 GB RAM
Oracle 8.1.3
DB Size is 12 GB
max users 100
Optimiser Mode = CHOOSE
ERP Tool with Oracle Back End isProtean (Wonderware)
Users connect to Protean Client and run reports via Citrix Metaframe

Problem: Running a specific report causes major latch contention which plateaus and never gets released.

The report was originally developed in Crystal 7, we have now upgraded all our citrix metaframes to Crystal 8.5. It gathers information from a view based on 7 tables which is joined to another table.

We have narrowed it down to one report which we think is causing the problem, but when we run this report in the test environment, it gets a latch and releases it, when the problem occurred in the live environment the latch doesnt seem to be released.

Firstly: I would like to know if someone could explain why a report only doing a read would get a latch in the first place?

Second : Has anyone come across this problem and do you have any suggestions on how to resolve it?

Thanks

Do you mean LATCH or LOCK? It's not the same.
Are you sure the report only READS data? Did you look at v$lock? Or at least on execution plan? Regards, Dima
