Crystal Reports 8.5 on Terminal Server

Hello,

The Crystal Reports 8.5 Viewer is not displaying Memo RTF fields (Oracle 9.2 LONG Field type) when being viewed via remote desktop on a terminal server.
The report runs but the text fields are simply blank.
If we login as Administrator then the memo fields are visible. We have copied all dll files to Windows\SYSTEM32.
Any Ideas?

Did you make sure the DLLS were set to "FULL CONTROL" for EVERYONE?

Have you tried changing the text interpretation on those fields? (None, Rich Text, HTML)

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the late reply but I have been in transit. What do you mean by Full control. We tried giving all users full access to Windows\System32 but no luck. This particular field is an Oracle LONG field and I have applied RTF formatting to the field.
Administrator works no problems - regular users cannot see this LONG field. The section is simply blank.

All other fields display as normal.

By default, when you install CR the DLLs are placed in a "CRYSTAL" folder. On a TS server this can causes issues with non-admins.

In the pst, many (most? all?) of these issues have been corrected by selecting all of the DLLs on the Crystal folder and granting EVERYONE full control to them and then copy them into the SYSTEM32 folder, making sure that "inherit" is not enabled else you will have to reapply full control to them.

I am not suggesting granting Full Control to the entire system32 folder, this is not a best practice and quite dangerous. Instead you only need to grant FULL CONTROL to the specific Crystal DLLs in the system32 folder.

That said, I am not sure CR 8.5 can view an Oracle long, can you tell me how CR references the field's datatype in the field explorer? (Picture? Memo? Note? String?)

It is viewed as a Memo field.
How do I select all the DLLs and grant full access to just the files. It is strnage that everyhting else works but that memo fields are not showing.

Typically what I do is..

1. Go to the CRYSTAL folder
2. Press CTRL and A
3. Press CTRL and C
4. Go to SYSTEM32 folder
5. Press CTRL V
6. CAREFULLY right click on one of the copied files, while it is still highlighted. And choose properties -- this should bring up properties for all the DLLs you just pasted
7. Grant FULL CONTROL

I looked at your solution.
All the crystal DLL files in the ‘system32 directory already had full control.
But I carried out your instructions, anyway.
Then I rebooted the Terminal server..
And still no joy..!
Any other ideas.

As a test can you create a formula that converts your memo field to a string and see if that is viewable?
