Crystal Reports 8.5 and Act! 2000

In ACT! 2000, when creating a meeting, call, or to do item, one of the things we always fill in is the "Regarding" field. The user can type anything they want in this field, or, they can choose from a list of items that has been created for that field. Currently, this list has only 1 item: "new customer."

We also use crystal reports 8.5 for reporting. I want to create a report that looks up all meetings, calls and to do items for a particular person; specifically those whose regarding field says "new customer."

Whenever I generate the report, I get zero matches. Using the Report Expert, I can browse the data contained in the "Regarding" field, and I see all the things that people have typed in - but I do NOT see "new customer." Is this entry on another table because it is a custom list for the field? Is there some other reason why I can see every entry except this one? Thanks in advance for your help.

Al,
How is your select criteria set up? Can you access the table schema figure out where that value is being held? It sounds like it could be in another field.

Thanks so much!

satinsilhouette,

That's what I thought. I have since began browsing the contents of every field in every table that could hold the "new customer" value. So far I haven't found it.

As I am new to CS, could you expand a little further on how I would access the Table Schema? I assume that this is done in CS; and it sounds like this is what I'm doing - but any pointers are welcome.

The table schema through CR is on the database menu.

As for Act 2000, you would need to be able to get to the database through some sort of query writer, and that depends on what database it is held on. Mircosoft SQL will be query analyzer, etc.

Take out your select criteria and run the report openly and look at your comments field to see if even that value is held somewhere in a notes field.

If I couldn't find it that way, I would take each table I had in the report and put it in its own report and look at the entire table that way.

It's a lot of detective work, but if you dont' have documentation telling you the table schema or a data dictionary, its all you have to work with.

Thanks so much!

I sort of figured it out. Sort of.

I ran a report on the regarding field for all contacts. There were 17000+ hits, so I stopped the report after the first 100. Sure enough, "new Customer" was among the entries. So if the data was actually there, why was I not getting any hits in my main report?

Turns out that my users who more than a first and last name, such as a middle initial or title, didn't configure their names properly. For example, the contact info for Steve P. Smith had the first name set to "P." So when I ran the report for "Steve," of course there were no hits. After properly configuring his first name in ACT!, the report produced the hits that I was expecting.

I still don't know why the custom list for the Regarding field is not selectable in CR, but the point is moot since my report functions properly none the less.

Thanks for your help.

Hi

Crystal Reports 8.5, Interbase 7.1

Suddenly, something must have happened because I'm having problems connecting to the Interbase DB using Crystal Reports 8.5. This is the error I'm getting... ODBC Error: [DataDirect][ODBC Interbase driver] unassigned code

To be more precise, this error is coming up only when creating new reports. I have no problems editing/validating an existing report. On creating a new report, after selecting the data-source name, I log on to the server successfully but then this error comes up. I even tried using other ODBC drivers such as Intersolv & EasySoft but still with the same problem.

HELP!!!!

Regards
Brian
