Hello,

I have a new user trying to run a Crystal Report created by another user. Both users have the same rights on the network. The report template comes up OK, but when the new user tries to refresh the report data, an ODBC (RDO) window comes up asking the user to select a data source and provide a data source name. The name of our ODBC data source is not among the list. I verified that the new user was included in the user list for MS SQL server management studio. They weren't, but I added the user with the proper credentials (same as all other users). I then verified that the ODBC source was on the System DSN of the user PC (it was, with the proper settings). I am able to run the report on my computer with no problems. Any thoughts?

Can you run the report on the new user computer? If you can it is user rights related otherwise machine related. Just to start from somewhere.

Viewer, scheduler and manager for Crystal reports.
Send your report everywhere.

If the ODBC screen comes up then I suspect the DSN used by the report is on the designer machine and NOT on the new user machine.

ODBC settings are local to each machine. Must be set up on each machine. I'd recommend a System DSN, but a User DSN works as well.

If you are using 64 bit windows, the ODBC must be set up using the 32 bit ODBC form as Crystal uses 32 bit connections and cannot see any 64 bit drivers or DSN's.

You could try Database > Verify Database. Small effort and it might work.

Thank you for your suggestions. The verify database option gave the same result. The database is not showing up on the list. The user does have the database set up in the System DSN with the same settings as other users (I used my own settings as a template and I can run the report). I tried removing and re-adding the user in the SQL Server Management Studio, but this hasn't made a difference. Thanks again for all of your suggestions to date.

It was a DSN issue after all. I put in a support request to Exact (our MRP software we use in conjunction with Crystal) and found out that to set up the DSN for Crystal Reports, you have to use the DSN setup in the Windows directory (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe) to set up the 32-bit DSN. Once I did that, the Crystal report worked normally. Thanks for your help!
