I am trying to setup up a report on crytal reports 8.5 to print out all the vendors we have in Macola 7.5.102(i know its old but haven't got around to upgrading ) , does anyone know what BTR holds that? I have tried POITMVND with no results!!

Also Im looking to print a list of all carrier codes in Macola? I have tried OECARCDE only prints out 1 carrier.

Is there a way to do these task without crystal?? I cant seem to get it to show anything using ??

Thanks so much in advance
A

OECARCDE_SQL is indeed the table for OE Carrier Codes. However I suspect you are actually looking for Ship Via Codes, which are in the SYCDEFIL_SQL table, along with a couple of hundred other codes.

You can segregate Ship Via Codes from other records in the SYCDEFIL by the field code_type="S".

If you want the code description to be on a crystal report, you are going to have to use a subreport. I hope this helps.

My bad. I was reading it too quickly and thought there was only one question. Thanks Don.

You can also use MS Query in Excel or MS Access or numerous other report writing tools to query & report. Crystal, I think, is the best. There are some limitations w/MSQuery & Access for columns, rows, sorting & selecting, etc.

Thanks so so so much you guys are so helpful, I think i got it!

One last question:
To connect to the Macola Database to Access 2000, what is the best way to accomplish this? Is there any online tutorial anywhere to accomplish this?

This question should be on a new thread.

Are you using the MS SQL version of Macola, or the Pervasive version?

Pervase or MS/SQL will work with MSAccess. First, create a System ODBC connection (control panel, administrative tools). In MSAccess, use the link tables option, and in the file type choose ODBC. You should then get a list of Macola tables to choose from. MSAccess then 'links' the table to the database. You wont be able to make changes to the table design, but you can view it. You can safely delete the table, as this only deletes the link, not the actual Macola table. Aside from that, anything else you do to the tables contents will impact Macola i.e. changing, deleting or adding records affects the actual data in the source Macola table. If you're developing something to update data, you might want to create an ODBC connection to your test company first. You can use the 'Linked Table Manager' to point it to your live data once you're OK with how it works and what it does.

I know you are btrieve, but which version of btrieve? I hope 2000i or higher. Pervasive 7 was quite a bit slower with the odbc connectivity & btrieve 6.15 was very slow connecting to large dbs through odbc.

It is not necessary to link tables in access, where you run the risk of inadvertently modifying the data files externally. You can also import via odbc to use access as a report generator. Again, I feel crystal is a superior tool to any other report writer. There are more functions & features, including the ability to export to ms excel, ms access, email, pdf, word, etc. And, you don't run the risk of corrupting your data accidentally. Just my 2 cents.
