I have a crystal report that runs fine accessing data from Sage via ODBC and sage manufacturing via SQL the report runs fine however sage on other users machines sits there unable to lock files it needs for update.

I wouldnt have thought the report was to be blame as it wont have locks to the files will it ? It only reads and reports the information or have I got something wrong?

Smitty, I just heard something similar from my manager and according to one of our venders, we should be entering "no lock" within the SQL statement. But in some cases where we are letting Crystal Reports perform all functions based upon what is entered through the Formula Workshop, it is still unclear how to do that. I will see what I can find out.

No not sure how to do that at all but could understand it working though I am surprised that the default is to lock in what effectivley is a reporting tool.

Thanks and please keep me informed on what you find

Hi,
It is not the reporting tool that does the locking, it is a function of the Database engine and how it handles queries...A RDBMS like Oracle, for instance, will never block readers with writers and CR is a 'reader'.
