crystal graphing issues 1

I am using CR9 and wish to produce a line graph from multiple data sets. Because of the nature of the data I am forced to extract each into a separate subreport.
I want the user to just see the graph and so have placed this on the main report.
The problem I have is getting the graph to see the data held in the subreports.
I have tried creating formulae as shared variables and calling them into the main report. This makes them visible but I cannot get the graph dialog to see them.
I have also tried a cross tab in the main report, but there seems to be a problem with the area availability in the graph dialog in that the selection button remains greyed out.
Does anyone out there have a way round my problem?

Try creating the formulas that reference the shared variables in the main report, but do NOT place them on the main report. Then see if you are able to move them into the "show values" area. Note that if you have already placed the summaries on the report, you might need to delete the chart and the formulas in the main report (remove them from the field explorer) and then rebuild them in order to get the values to appear in the chart. If you want to display the values in the main report, you can add them AFTER building the chart.

If you are unable to check "do not summarize", then insert maximums on the values. Be sure to have your chart placed in a section below the ones in which the subreports are placed.
