Hi,

I'm trying to put in place a trial Crystal Enterprise system using Crystal Enterprise Version 8 Standard Edition to show those that hold the purse strings we should invest and use it as a means of distributing reports.

I'm having a problem though!

I've installed the software onto a dedicated reporting server, which has SQL Server installed and set up the ODBC data source on the server that I wish to connect to.

Yet every time I try and schedule a report I get a failed instance with "cannot open SQL Server" as the error.

As far as I can see the user name and password are correct and the server should have access to the datasource.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers

Marc

I assume that the SQL Server installed on the CE Server differs from the one that the report is to use.

If so, from Enterprise Manager, se if you can register the SQL Server required by the report on the SQL Server that resides on the CE Server using the same login you're using for the report.

You didn't mention if you were using ODBC or a direct connection, and if you're using NT Authentication.

This appears to be a connectivity error, so make sure that the settings are all correct, and that the report is pointing to the same SQL Server (or ODBC connection) when you save it.

Look at the ODBC datasouce that you created and check to see whether it is set for NT / SQL / or mixed mode.

Once verified, reset the location of the report datasource and attempt a refresh from CR, assuming that you have CR installed on the same box.

Installing CR onto the CE box is a good way to t'shoot the report.
