Sorry not a network guy here. We are running a Citrix system with Win2000 Prof and running Crystal Reports v8.5Prof edition.
Myself and the MIS director yesterday were attempting to enable us to export reports to different formats such as Word, Excel, Pdf etc but kept receiving an error message
"The report distribution expert is not installed"
Not realizing that we were going to Report>Compile Report and then selecting "Distribute Report After" and selecting yes we then got this error.
So he went to crystal's site and downloaded the report distribution export and then tried to install it and ended up reading that this functionality will be discontinued in v9. So this is where we decided to end it.
This morning I then went back to crystal and Reports>Distribution Expert and then realized this is where we should have been yesterday. My fault - stupid me. So I did not process anything becuase I was concerned that maybe it would write files to the network server that it should not. I pointed it to a report on my local drive and also pointed the destination to my local drive but it showed that some dlls' will be writen to drive M so I stopped.
Okay this is where the question starts: If we want to be able to export reports to Excel, Word or PDF format (these reports have drill down, group trees etc) do we need to go with Crystal Enterprise via web reporting? Are we misinterpretting the discontinuance of this ability. If someone can give me a little not too technical advice here I would appreciate it. This way I can discuss with our MIS Director and see which way we need to go for us.
Thanks and sorry if not explaining it very well.
