Greetings,

Anyone out there know if Provia's Viaview can send out an alert that will trigger a crystal report to run?

Thanks!

Would that be a no? Just want to know if Crystal can be initiated by something other than preset times, or user interaction. Anyone know?

You can use custom events that can be triggered by server side script (e.g. JavaScript) or your app can drop a file which CE can detect using the Event server.

Awesome! What is the Event server? How exactly would that work? Could an email initiate it? So many questions! So much excitement! :) Thanks!!

What we have in place right now is viaview can send out a very limited script which in turn sends out an email to a user every time there is an adjustment made to the inventory. Were we able to edit this script to check the hold status we would be good to go. Unfortunately it will not and we only want to know if the adjustment affects the hold, not everytime there is an adjustment, which can be frequent. One time when there were adjustments due to a receiving error, in which the user received 6600 emails. I know that CR can run a report and check if the hold was affected and if so then send itself (the report) to the user and if not then no email, however the problem is how to initiate CR to run the report. Does that help?

The powers that be are looking at MS reports and a couple other options and as we are at the upgrade CR or move on point I need to have this work. I would rather upgrade and stick with CR, but I suspect this is hindging on that decision.

Does licensing cost enter into the decision? We're at a similar juncture.

We currently have lots of CALs -- which are fine for us. As they've dropped CALs, if we re-license we'll have to convert to named user or processor licensing. The new licensing may wind up costing us up to a cool mill (if my understanding is correct). I don't theen' they're goin' to like that, Qeegsdraw!

Problem is we have (currently) 10 sites, each site w/ a 2-proc box.

Based on our need/use, I having to tap-dance awfully fast (and/or look for less expensive alternatives... ActiveReports by Data Dynamics?).
