I am getting this error in the Event Viewer Application Log on my Crystal Enterprise server and it is related to SQLServer:

Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0
SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 7 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.

After this error occurs I then get a Crystal_CrystalAPS error that says:

Database access error. Reason [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 7 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
.

Then I get a number of errors (still the source is Crystal_CrystalAPS) like this:
Info APS database connection is broken. Trying 3 time(s) to re-establish connection. Please check Info database machine status. I will continue to get these errors until I reboot it. Maybe I should just try restarting the MSDE database and see what happens.

It has happened now 3 times at roughtly 4:00AM on different days (not sequential days). I cannot find why it is happening at this time since I only perform a backup at 9:00PM every night. We are using the MSDE database that came with the installation disk. My CE90 MSDE database is very small (141MB) and I have never run any update statistics or any other datbase utilities like CheckDB on it. I also have never rebuilt any indexes on this database.

I thought it could be some report running right before this happens but I can't find anything that is running.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the server that the database resides on getting backed up at this time?

Cathy

I will have to check with our network group on this. If it is getting backed up how can I avoid this problem? It doesn't always happen every night and I think the server is backed up every night.

If it's a scheduled job, have the time changed to either earlier or later. It may just be that it is running at the time that the database is being backed up or has a maintenance program running on it. Or it could be that there is another job that is running at the same time that has exclusive rights to the database. The network people should be able to help you with it.

Cathy

The server gets backed up between 9 and 10PM.
