Gack! You think you've seen the topic, but Search won't find it.

Has there been any discussion here about using Crystal Reports / Crystal Enterprise with Oracle 10g? Has anyone had any problems reporting off a 10g database or using 10g for the APS? We're currently on CR/CE/Oracle 9 and starting to upgrade the databases to 10g.

Please post your version of Crystal.

There are many features in newer versions of databases that won't work with older tools, Crystal included.

Obtaining the latest client for Oracle will help, but Crystal still can't support certain data types.

Are you trying native or ODBC connectivity?

If ODBC, are you using the Oracle supplied or the Crystal driver? Generally the Crystal supplied Oracle ODBC driver is required, but again, if you have an older version then you're out of luck. The last I'd heard was that CR XI supports Oracle 10, for the most part ;)

I've had to write Views to work around issues in database for years, consider that thsi might be part of your requirements as well.

Well, you know - I did say version 9. But since I'm sitting here with versions 9 and 10 and have the option to upgrade to XI, it's not really important. If there are know issues with any CR/CE versions accessing a 10g database, I'd like to know about it.

If there are none, we'll go ahead and upgrade the db and react as needed. Otherwise, we'll consider the issues before proceeding.

Thanks for your input.

Sorry, it wasn't clear that CR/CE/Oracle 9 meant all products were at 9.

Crystal states that CR XI supports Oracle OCI v10 libraries:

There have been posts here regarding previous versions of Crystal and ORacle 10, and of course any newer data types will cause Crystal problems. I've gotten around things like the timestamp with timezone by CASTing the data types into acceptable data types.

I'm not using Oracle 10 in the office (played with it at home briefly using CR 10 and managed to hit tables OK).

I imagine you'll experience some pains, ever decreasing as you upgrade on the Crystal side.
