I have been given a contract to write crystal reports froman ACT! database - these are .dbf files - and some of the fields appear to be encrypted. At least I cannot read them, the characters in the fields are all junk.

Is there an ACT! ODBC driver that allows me to read these fields? Connecting natively I cannot read them. Software Sales, Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

ACT! is pretty annoying with their database design, what you're probably experiencing is a unique id that isn't obviously an ID, check:

What version of ACT! are you using?

It's been a while since I did any work against ACT!, CD has a few KB articles on it though, check these:

Good luck with it, dgillz, hope it isn't as bothersome as it was for me...

Hi Don,

CR8.5 has native drivers for Act. You need Act installed and CR will pick up the required tables if you select the main DBF file. It works for Act 4/2000. I have tried it with an Act 2002 DB.

You also need a valid Act user to access the DB.

There is also a problem with CR9 using Act. The drivers that were supplied with Cr9 are for Act3.

Email me directly if you have any further questions. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear
