Hello All,

I am using Crystal 9 and we have just upgraded to Oracle 10g.

I cannot find a compatable database driver to be able to connect my reports to the new 10g Oracle database.

I've searched the BO Knowledge Base and I am unable to find any information.

Is Crystal 9 supported by Oracle 10g?

Also, I've downloaded CR Oracle 5.0 drivers and no luck.

Thanks,
pmella2000

I was finally able to get the CR Oracle Wire Protocol ODBC Driver 5.0 to work. I am not certain as to why it did not work when I tried this earlier.

Lucky me!

Hi,
Have you tried to use Oracle's native driver ( Oracle Server in the database listing)? Although it obviously is not listed in CR9's platform guide, it should work...

Hi Turkbear,

In the ODBC Data Source Administrator, there is an Oracle driver that I installed with Oracle Client:

OraClient10g_home1 v10.02.00.01 SQORA32.DLL

Is this what you are referring to?

Hi,
No..
there should be a listing named Oracle Server ( in CR9 it may be under Others or named differently) but it is not an ODBC driver but one that uses your SqlNet setup ( Oracle client, tnsnames.ora, etc)..

Hi,

We are in the process to upgrade to 10 G and have CR9.

I am concerned if CR9 will connect to 10 G.

Where can I download the driver CR Oracle Wire Protocol ODBC Driver 5. mentioned in the thread and do some testing.
Thanks

Hi,

Thanks!

Just one more clarification. On the Business object site I see a note---
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Note: These drivers are available for using Crystal Reports as a standalone designer or as part of a BusinessObjects Enterprise XI deployment. They are not supported for use with any other Business Objects products.
>>>>>>>>>>

What does this mean.

We are on crystal reports 9.2.2.634 and Windows 2003
Driver I will need is ---

Data Drivers (DataDirect ODBC Drivers 5.0) to connect to Oracle 10 G .

Thanks again.

Hi,
There are many Business Objects products in addition to Crystal Reports ( and Crystal Reports running as published reports in Business Objects Enterprise XI)..These drivers cannot be used with any of those, or with any other tool that uses ODBC connections ( like Access or other reporting tools)

Bigger Problem..
These drivers will not work with CR9, as far as I can tell.

Use the Native Driver as I recommended..

Hi Turkbear,

Thank you for all of your assistance. It is much appreciated!

I was able to use the CR Oracle Wire Protocol ODBC Driver 5 with CR9 and Oracle 10g (Windows XP) and so far - it works.

I would prefer to use the Native Driver you recommend but I do not have one listed in the ODBC Data Administrator.

The version I do have is 2.575.1117.00. Would I find an updated version?

I also have Oracle 10g Client on my machine and there is an Oracle in OraClient 10g driver but do not want to use this driver because if I have to give other users an odbc datasource to connect to reports, I do not want to have to install the Oracle Client on their machine (there is only one other user that will get the odbc data source - but still...) Once I have upgraded the report source from Oracle 8 to 10g, reports will be scheduled to run from a server. Do I need to be concerned with the type of driver used for the scheduled reports?

Thank you,

Hi,
It will not be listed there..the one you see is an ODBC one

When in CR designer to create new a report, when asked to select a connection/database to use, look at the list for one called Oracle Server ( at least in 10 and XI, not sure about 9, but something similar) - it is the Native driver and uses your Oracle client to connect.

The wire protocol drivers are the best ODBC type to use, but it is still a good idea to use the Native drivers where possible..

Af for having it run on a server, it is probably more important to use the Native driver, since permissions to use a DSN are tricky to set.
