I have a number of very complicated Crystal Templates written in 8.5. We are thinking of going to Crystal 11, but I want to know if I can just convert them over, or will I have to rewrite them all. Anyone have experience with this conversion?

Many people have upghraded successfully.

If you've used Crystal Queries or dictionaries, you'll have to rewrite.

If you modified the SQL generated by Crystal, you'll have to rewrite.

Make copies of the reports, download the freebie version of CR XI (30 day trial), and test them, that's the only way to really know.

Basically if you bought into any of Crystal's proprietary BS, you're in trouble.

If you based reports on tables, views or SPs, you should be in fine shape.

I'm avoiding using Business Views/Universes for the same reason, eventually it'll probably backfire.

One thing that I encountered.

If you downloaded and use leadingcaps ufl, then you will have to change it to propercase. It doesn't show up when you Verify database but it does when you refresh the report

LW: Are you saying that XI doesn't support UFLs?

I know that you can use propercase in lieu of the UFL, which was introduced in CR 9 I think, not XI, but I think that the UFL should still work if they don't want to rewrite those functions.

It did not like the leadingcaps when I refreshed but I think it's because I knew that ProperCase was available with CR 9 and above so I did not bother to copy leadingcaps to CR XI.

My leadingcaps ufl is stored in the Seagate directory instead of the Business Objects directory so it was not available for the CR XI report.

LW: Ahhh, got it, that makes more sense to me.

I would rewrite any UFL that you can as well, anything proprietary always makes me nervous.

Wease7, if you read this, i'm curious as to how you made out w/the install and aftermath. I am currently using 8.5, thinking of going to 11...
