I have an accounting system has established a system DSN to connect to the reporting tables. The data source IS NOT sql server. When I use Access and the DSN I see the tables, fields and can query the data. When I use Crystal 8.5 I can see the tables and the fields, but when I run the report or browse field data no records are returned. Any ideas why I can't pull data?

I must continue to use Crystal 8.5 so I can use the report viewer that is part of the accounting system, and exporting the data just to report on it is not permitted.

Thank You,

So this dsn is an ODBC connection?

An alternative is to the LINK the tables in an MS Access database (not import, and make sure you select save password) , create an Access query if need be, or go directly against the tables in Access.

As for this dsn connection, you might want to share specifics, such as whether it's a proprietary ODBC connection, or???

Crystal should see it if Access does though...

Personally I prefer the Access layer because it allows for more flexibility and for writing better queries than CR 8.X allows for.

I like Access as well, but this report must be made in Crystal so it can be launched from the accounting system. (I am adding information to an existing report) I guess you would describe the connection as proprietary.

Thanks

I suggested that you use Crystal, you didn't understand the solution, Access is just a layer, it's not used to display nor create the report.

You might describe it as proprietary, but there must be some form of known connectivity, such as ODBC. If you've no idea, that's fine.

You described what it is not, SQL Server, and you could have added 100's of more databases that it is not, but it would be more useful to know what it is.

Many of us work with proprietary accounting systems and understand the subtleties of doing so, I suggest that you post environment and requirements.

Anyway, read my solution again, it is NOT using Access as the report generator. btw, I don't like using Access, it just seemed to suit this requirement from what little you're willing to share.
