I set up users with public & db owner access to dbs on my sql server. I have tried odbc connection using windows authentication & sql authentication. When I have used SQL, I have entered the user password in the password field. Existing reports run fine.

On a new report, using either authentication, I get SQL
connection failed
SQL State '28000'
SQL Server Error 18456
Microsoft odbc sql server driver sql server login failed for user . . . \\servername\username.

The trusted connection check box comes up. I turn it off & enter user password. Then I can generate a report. Never seen this before.

I've searched businessobjects website to no avail. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I've seen this before - I'm assuming you have your ODBC connection configured on the client to use a trusted connection. This might sound strange, but I've overcome this by deleting the user in SQL Enterprise Manager, and then re-adding the user INCLUDING the servername e.g. \\MYSERVER\FRED.
