I'm not a Crystal user (just a client/server programmer), but have been asked to help one. Apparently, his data dictionary and all reports were created using Crystal 5. He had a hard-drive crash and Crystal 6 was installed and his reports and dictionaries were copied over from one of his backups. His old reports do not work properly : they put out the message "not logged on to server" and "server has not yet been opened" most of the time, when I refresh the report data.

I reinstalled Crystal 6, hoping it would ask me to convert his reports and dictionaries...which it did not.

He uses Oracle 7 through ODBC.

Please help.

Version shouldn't be the problem since the dictionary formats of V5 and V6 are the same.

Is the ODBC connection setup the same as it was? It is more likely that the DSN isn't the same as it was and the report/dictionary can't find the data.

He could open the V6 dictionary tool and verify the database of the dictionaries, re-setting the location of the tables if needed. Ken Hamady

Thank you for the reply/help. I brought up Crystal's 32-bit ODBC handler and got the error "The ODBC resource DLL (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ODBCINT.DLL) is a different version than the administrator (C:\PROGRAM FILES\SEAGATE CRYSTAL REPORTS\ODBCAD32.EXE). You need to reinstall the ODBC Components to ensure proper operation."

I did, and the reports seem to be working fine. Everytime I call up Crystal's 32-bit ODBC handler, I get this message. Should I upgrade windows ODBC handler?

Upgrading the ODBC would probably be pretty safe. Of course I am usually of the "if it ain't broke ..." school.

So as long as things are working I would personally leave as is. Of course the problems may crop up in other areas which would make it wise to upgrade the ODBC. Ken Hamady
