Hi Guys,

I was wondering, if I have several monthly reports, which each have several .rpt files, is there anyway of grouping the report files someways? Each group actually uses the same queries basically, but the difference lies in the parameter Date and Customer.
I am grateful of any advice.
Thanks a lot.

Pleas define what *grouping the report files* means to you. You can have a container report and place the other reports as subreports, or if the differences are simply date and customer, you might be able to group by these fields and use a single report, but it's impossible to know based on your post as you've shared nothing technical.

Successful posts generally include:

Crystal version
Database/connectivity used
Example data
Expected output

None of which are included in your post.

ok,
I am using crystal reports XI. I generally connect to Access DB & Oracle DBs. I have 3 Views as Datasource which enable me to make monthly report for, say, 10 different customers. I do this by having customerID and date as parameters in my Views. Now each View depending on how I specify the field restriction, can be used several times for each customer. In short, I have 3 Views, but 10 report files, depending on layout and sources required from the view. Now my question is merely to organise these 10 reports in an Archive for all 10 Customers in someway as not to always have to enter the customerID but merely the date!! I think the container report idea is what I want. Could you elaborate on how to do this, and how it works?
Thanks!!

I would consider linking (not improting) the Oracle tables into MS Access and then building out the queries in MS Access and exposing them as the data source.

Anyway, you can use Insert->Subreport and place subreports within a report, however you can only go one level deep (no subreports within subreports).

You might also be able to just group by the Customer and then by the date and use one report for everything.

As you must realize, you've shared nothing about the data and little about the required output so I can only guess.

If you elect to share technical information someone may offer more tailored suggestions.

Yes , I hear you! In fact the idea of obtaining all queries from access with the Oracle view as links was my original idea, but it can't be done due to the complexity of the SQL. Access doesn't allow for this style of SQL:
select a,b,c,sum(k1), sum(k2) from select(
select a,b,c
case when c=1
1
end k1,
case when c=2
-1
end k2
from ...)
That sort of stuff seems beyond Access unfortunately.
But the subreport idea sounds good for me. I only need to go 1 deep. But I can add, say, 9 subreports to 1 right? making 10 reports under 1 .rpt file!!??? Thats all I want really. I have deliberately not added code or gone in detailed, because I don't think it is really relevant in this case.
Its a mere organisational question.
Thanks

Hi,
Actually, I could have all my complex SQL Views linked into MS Access and as you, synapsevampire, were saying, link crystal reports XI via MS Access. Is this what you meant?

What is the easiest way to monthly change the 2 parameters CustomerID & month??
I guess via the Access application, right? What other benefits does the sourcing from Access have?

Thanks.
