I have a CRXI report with a datasource that is an ODBC connection to a MS SQL Server 2000 database. I use a single table and a SQL command object from the ODBC database. I want to point the report to a different server/database that has the same structure and tables but different data. I would like to use an ODBC connection for this data, also.

When I try to set the datasource location, I copy the existing command object, highlight "add command" on the data source I want to change to, and click "update." The add command window opens and I paste the command statement. I add the necessary parameter (with a slightly different name), update the command to reflect the new parameter, and click OK. I am prompted for the value of my parameter, which I enter and click OK.

The command object for the new ODBC is not moved to the current data source window. It's like I didn't do any of the steps at all.

I tried using an OLEDB connection instead, and had the same result.

I am doing a demonstration and won't have access to the current database (no VPN access) and I REALLY don't want to rewrite this report. I've searched the archives and haven't seen a solution for this. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Well, I found it! On the Business Objects web site, of all things, KB article c2016958. It works for version XI, also. You must be logged in to both databases.

1. Open a report with a command object.

2. Go the 'Database' menu and click 'Set Datasource Location'.

3. In the 'Set Datasource Location' dialog box, select the connection for the command object (the connection appears as a cylinder with a plug).

4. In the lower window, select the new connection and log on to the database.

5. Ensure the connection is highlighted for the command object in the top window, and the connection is highlighted for the new command object in the bottom window.

6. Click Update.

The database connection for the command object now changes to use the new database connection information.
