We have CRXI Server and have a number of our reports integrated into other applications.

I need to know if it is possible (and if so how) to retain
a report ID in crystal server.

The problem is that I often have to make changes to the reports and then I delete them from the CMC and then re-publish - which give the report a new ID. I then therefore, have to go into our other apps to change the ID its pointing too.

I have tried looking everywhere, but cant see hwo to retain the reports original id. i.e. replace the report OR update it as opposed to having to delete it and publish again.

Help!
THanks

Hi,
Using CRXI Pro you can open the report directly from the repository ( at least in BOE and maybe you can as well in CR Server) , make changes and resave it..no ID change ( the Database login Info may be lost however unless you set the Refresh Options in the CMC for that report(s) to not change the default info..

when you say repository, do you mean the actual physical location of the reports on the hard drive - after publishing?

i.e. C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11\FileStore\

If so - how do you know the physical location of the .rpt file? I have had a look and know where they are kept - but the folder structure is quite vast and would take ages to keep finding reports - esp if we keep on pub lishing new reports.

Thanks

Hi,
I am not sure about Crystal Server ( we use the full-blown BOE XI) but, in CR there would be a option to open a file from the Enterprise ( the published version not the physical file)..Perhaps that is not supported in CR Server XI..

thank you Turkbear.

I got it now. Yes, when I open the report writer - it gives open to browse a "Enterprise" - I log on and can select the report.

Many Thanks

Yep, and it also preserves the historical instances of the report.

Once you save it back you may need to reset the database and parameter information.

You can uncheck the REFRESH options under the ReportObject's Properties page in the CMC.

It will maintain the existing database and parameter information we you do a "SAVE AS" from the CRYSTAL REPORTS desktop tool.

Hi,
Apparenty you did not notice my advice to that same effect:

Glad you got it anyway...[wink]
