crw32.exe has encountered an error... linking tables

I'm running Windows XP using Crystal Reports XI (Developer - evaluation copy), accessing a ProvideX 6.2 database. When writing a new report (using Standard Report Wizard) and selecting two tables (i.e. po_po_header and po_po_lines) I get the crw32.exe error and Crystal shuts down. In some cases multiple tables work with no problems but in other cases (other tables) Crystal errors out. These same po tables, linked in MS Query, work fine together so I believe it's Crystal, not ProvideX, causing the problem. When I first installed the Developer's version of Crystal I downloaded and installed SP1. Then I attempted to download and install SP2 - it bombed for no apparent reason so I assume nothing happened with SP2 (but can't be absolutely sure). I have not installed any monthly hot fixes. At this point I've done the following, none of which has worked: 1) uninstalled the SP1 update (using restore), 2) "repaired" Crystal under add/remove programs, 3) uninstalled Crystal and manually deleted the directories and registry keys, restarted and installed Crystal again - nothing helps. I also used sqlcon32.exe to diagnose ODBC driver issues - no problems that I can see. I tried pointing the desktop icon directly to c:\program files\business objects\crystal reports 11\crw32.exe and running it from the directory.... all to no avail. I have a "case" open with Business Objects but no luck so far. Anyone have any ideas on where to go from here, what to do next? Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks, Kathy

p.s. I also get another error at times in conjunction with the crw32.exe error: The instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate.

I've installed SP2 on numerous machines without a problem, so I'd be very suspicious of that.

This could mean your Windows install and plenty of other things.

If there's another machine around, try installing on it.

I just answered a similar post that involved an error while linking tables; "Your problem is that Crystal is trying to auto-link the tables. Turning off the auto linking function will resolve this issue. In Ver 10, this is done in the Windows Registry. See article c2014792 in the BO Knowledge Base for the instructions on how to perform this task." Your problem may be the same although I'm not sure how smart-linking is set up in XI; disabling the Auto-Smart-Linking function may work here as well.

O.K., I installed Crystal's SP2 with no problems. Still have the same problem with the error crw32.exe - with an additional twist... Windows now reboots when you click on the Crystal Reports 11 desktop icon... Created a new icon, same thing.

I changed DoAutoSmartLinking to "No" and saved, still no go...
