"Error formatting cross-tab object"

I've noticed this occurs when my crosstab goes beyond 7 3/8 inches (up/down) AKA Height. If I resize a field in the crosstab that makes the crosstab less than 7 3/8, it works. Anything beyond 7 3/8 returns the above error message.

Bussiness objects support knowledgebase has two entries for this error. The first assumes the grouping is corrupt. It's not. I followed the instructions, and created another grouping and placed the crosstab in it. It didn't work. Next, they mention that "Keep Together" needs to be checked in the Format Section. It didn't fix it. iI checked "Keep Togther" on the grouoing also. Didn't work.

I've tried several different versions from 8.5 to VI, and I still have the problem.

I think you must mean that an individual cell is > 7 3/8". This is an unusual use of a crosstab. You might try inserting two separate crosstabs into separate group header sections, each with half of the summaries.

The crosstab contains 30 cells, and each cell is about a quarter inch to a half inch tall. The crosstab itself is 7 3/8 inches tall due to all the cells. I'm working on an income statement with a lot of summary fields.

That's not a bad idea. I'm still trying to figure out why this problem exists.

I think you could also get this message if one of the row labels is in a cell that exceeds the limit, e.g., if you have multiple groups (row fields), the outer row label cell will extend down while the inner row causes repeated summaries.

The other thing you could try is pivoting the crosstab, so that it creates virtual pages across.

How would I do this?

If you right click on the upper left (blank) corner of the crosstab, one of the options is "pivot crosstab". This will make your rows into columns, and your columns into rows.
