Hi all,

I have 2 boxes on the network, one win98 and one winxp. We run ipx and tcp on all pcs here. I put an additional nic on each box and a crossover cable so I can transfer data between them, while keeping up my network connections with the nics already installed. The cards are detected and all is OK at this point. I still cant figure out how to get my 2 boxes to see each other.

I know my description above might seem vague, but does anyone know how I can set them up without disturbing my existing network connections?

Thank you soo much!!!

If the boxes are already on a network with IPX and TCP, you do not additional NIC's to et them to talk to each other. You just need to configure the existing network to do that.

Post back with the details of the existing network and we can try to help.

Actually good thing I found you guys. I have a same question about that that I can't find a proper answer to anywhere.

I have a desktop with 2 network cards in it. I have a loptop with a PCMCIA carn in it and I have a cross over cable.

I'm trying to connect both computers and have then share my internet connection and be able to share files and etc. From what I hear lately that can be done with a crossover. But everyone I ask about it seams to have forgoten how to do that!? :)

Can anyone be very very generous and send me complete instructions? I would apresheate that. Here are the details.

I understand that there needs to be something activated on both computer, ICS (internet connection sharing). I have no idea how to do that.

I'm running Windows XP on my desktop and Windows 98SE on my lop top. If you have any information about this network setup.

Thank you very much.

It sounds to me like you want to keep your data transfer traffic off of your network. Hence, the second connection. With today's higher speed connections, it's not as common as it used to be to see this type of configuration. But there are still reasons for having it.

To keep the two completely separate, I would use netbeui on the second connection. TCP/IP and IPX on the main connection. Then the two won't connections won't care about each other.

I actually have the same problem with Karass and am glad to find you guys as well. I would like to connect two PCs together but without any internet connection. Is it possible with just a crossover cable?

Absolutely, just plug a crossover cable between the two NIC's and you are connected. Enable the network protocols you need and you are ready to go.

It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!
