Crosshair cursor not working in Firefox Web Developer Toolbar

I've been struggling with this problem for months... whenever I enable the "View Style Information" option of the Web Developer toolbar in Firefox, I always get the I-Bar cursor instead of the crosshair cursor.

After about 30 minutes of searching, I found a solution, which I'm posting just to save the sanity of anyone else as frustrated as I was with the problem!

Note: I know this solution works for Windows XP - but cannot vouch for any other strain of Windows.

Go into Control Panel, then "Mouse", "Pointers", and select the Scheme as "(None)".
