Cross tab row header formatting

Hi,
Using CR 8.5/

Trying to format the row header to show as MMM YYYY as in (May 2004). I used a formula to get the month and the year and concatenated them. Since the year in s number, I had to convert it to a text field. But now it shows with commas and decimal points. How can I get rid of those commas and decimal points form the year.
