Hi People

A quick question that I hope somebody can answer for me.

Is is possible to have two (or more) cross tab reports next to each other in the report header? If so how do I format it so that the first cross tab doesnt overwrite the second one.

What I am aiming at is something like the 'format with multiple columns' thing that you get in the details section.

Hope somebody out there knows the answer to this.

Thanks

Lizzy

Sorry - I have just reread the above post - what I want is two crosstabs side by side in the same section - in case anyone was confused.

Lizzy

Lizzy,

Not at all confusing.

I needed to do the same thing recently, but couldn't figure out how to do it. I used the cross-tab wizard to put the first cross-tab into the report. I them did Insert / Crosstab to try to do the second one, but it only opened the Crosstab Expert for the first crosstab.

I also tried creating them in two separate reports, in the hope that I could paste from one to the other, but it gave me a message to say that the object couldn't be pasted across reports.

If anyone has got a solution, I'd be interested to hear it.

Hi Lizzy

Initial thought (not been able to test this) would be to create 2 Header sections (RHa and RHb). Put first cross-tab in RHa and second in RHb. Format RHa and check the box "Underlay Following Sections"

Hope this helps,

John

thanks for the reply.

Tried putting them in separate headers and underlaying the following sections. Unfortunately there is no way to say 'dont start second crosstab untill 1st is finished'. This creates a problem as the 2nd one will still print over the top of the 1st one!.

I suspect that it cant be done. Shame really.

I have managed to persuade the client that he can cope with the crosstabs underneath each other tho!. I might keep trying tho.

Mike,

You definitely can place two crosstabs in one report, so it's unclear what caused the problem you encountered.

Lizzy,

If you happen to have the same columns in each of the two crosstabs, you could control the number of columns in each crosstab by inserting a group that is based on a subset of columns that will fit in half the page width and placing the crosstabs in the group. If the column field is a sequential field, you can use a formula to group on like:

if {table.ID} in 1 to 4 then 1 else
if {table.ID} in 5 to 8 then 2 else
if {table.Id} in 9 to 12 then 3 //etc.

Otherwise there is a FAQ (I think in the CR 1 Formulas Forum) which outlines a method using a variable to count columns for grouping purposes, although this method can result in non-sequential ordering of columns.

Of course, if the columns for each crosstab are different, these methods won't be helpful.

Hello again Lizzy,

Just had another thought - have you tried the "Fit Section" option when formatting the sections?

Again, not had the opportunity to test this, but I thought I'd pass on the idea.

Good Luck,

John

I added two different cross-tabs to the header. In CR9 there is an option called 'Relative Positions' in the Section Expert. This maintains the distance between the objects. This does what I think you want.

The option doesn't exist in CR8
