I am work through a major document in Word. Having finished the majority of typing I am now inserting a large number of cross references across the document.

I have a major irritation when doing this that is literally driving my up the wall! I would be very grateful if anyone could help!!!

I click where I want the cross reference to be inserted and open the cross reference window, find the reference and click Insert - so far so good. Now I want to insert another reference close the first one, so I click the document to move the cursor, then click back to the cross reference window, this is where I get annoyed.

When the cross reference window regains focus, the list of references in redrawn, as its drawing I cannot scroll through the list, because it keeps jumping to the top. I then have to re-find, normally the same place in the list. to insert a close cross reference.

I hope someone has a useable work around.

Thank

Ben.

Hi Ben,

If you're inserting multiple cross-references to the same point in the document, create the first one, then simply copy & paste it to wherever else you need it.

If you're inserting cross-references close together to multiple points in the document, insert all of them in the one location, then drag & drop to where you actually want them.

If you're inserting both a cross-reference's text and its page #, you can insert the same reference twice and, when you're finished, convert one of them via:
. select the one you want to change
. Press Ctrl-F9 to reveal the field code
. Change 'REF' to 'PAGEREF' (or vice-versa)
. Press F9 to update.

Cheers
