Cross-Reference Active Directory to Survey Results

I've put out a survey to our users and, since we're tied to AD, it'll pull in their display name when they submit the survey results; however, is there a way I can pull out other information, such as office or department?

I'm expecting hundreds of results for this survey and do not want to have to manually cross-reference these individuals with their location since that information is already in AD.

If nothing else, perhaps a hidden field that pumps into the survey database results. In a perfect world, when a contributor exports the survey to excel, it will display the ID, the Created By (pulled from Active Directory's display name), and the Department (pulled from AD), then continue on with the survey results.

If this isn't possible--how are companies surveying large amounts of users and grouping them? I have horrid fears that I'll end up writing a WSH to read the Excel file and read AD to populate a 2nd spreadsheet--that's not automated and I do _not_ want to explain how to do that to my boss. :)

Suggestions?

Regards,

David

Hello,

Have you found a solution to this yet? This would really be a nice way of conducting a survey and get more info read from the A.D than just displayname (or username).

If you have not solved this I can do some testing here since I would probably need something similar.

Thomas2000-

Not yet, my pseudo way around this has been to export the results to Excel and create an Access database that has Import Links to the Excel Spreadsheet and the GAL, then I can just run a query cross-referencing the display name to the display name in the GAL and pull out office, phone number, etc. and then export that to another Excel file. It's messy, but if you keep the Excel file named the same and use Link rather than Import Tables, the entire process gets down to just a few mouse clicks.

I'll keep tinkering around... my thought is, if nothing else, creating a custom aspx page with a data view of the SPS list (survey) and see if I can superimpose the GAL on top of that... {/shrug) Something to try when I get to work. (^_^)

Thanks and good luck!

Regards,

David
