HUGE DILEMMA!! Today is my first day at my part time work, I have brought back some of the quark documents that is save in version 4.11 in my usb drive.
When I plugged in my usb drive, the quark documents have showed up as 'Unix Executable File'! What is that? What can I do to make sure I can use in both plateform?
Also how do I save a quark document into version 4 from Quark xpress 6.1??

I looks like you might have loaded in Quark docs created in Mac 9.2 (since 4 is not OSX compatible) or earlier and not saved with the .qxd file extension name - whcih had to be done manually on 9.2 and earlier. On the computer with these files you would have to Save As and add the .qxd file extension.

These will now open in either Mac OSX or Windows.

There is no conversion from 6 to 4. If you happen to have Quark 5, or access to it, you can save your 6 doce to 5, then open in 5 and save back to 4.

Can you simply add the extension to it and open from Quark or do you actually have to "save as" from the original file?

Signal49.

I think you can just add it and probably should have suggested it, bu my mind blaked out. However, once in a while I've read of reports where that was not successful.

But it certainly can't hurt anything so it's worth the try.
