I am running Cat5 from ISP router located in a hallway to a room that is same floor/same building about 20 ft. to a new system that will run software firewall 2 nics.

Question, from router to first nic does it have to be cross over or straight thru? Second run..straiht thru to second nic, connection is to switch to give everyone else access?

Real problem, when doing wall drop into server room I am using galvanized pipe mounted to wall and external Leviton cat5 568 jacks. If first run/drop comming from ISP router is cross over how do I terminate at the jack? If second run/drop is a straight thru then I will terminate as usual.

Please provide suggestions.

Router to nic and nic to switch are straight through. Cables between jacks should always be straight through. Make any crossovers in the jumper from the wall to the equipment.
