I was looking towards doing my MCAD certification but now can't. I was looking at the MCDBA as I work a lot with SQL Server 2000. I was wondering what happens if I was to take that including the development exams, Exam 70–305 or Exam 70-306. If I were to then do an MCAD certification would I be able to retake the exam I took previously or have to take the other one? Would this affect the MCSD as the exams appear there to.

There is some overlap for the various certifications and no you don't have to retake a test you have already passed. So it is possible to kill two birds with one stone as they say by passing one exam that will fulfill requirements for two different certifications.

If you pass the MCSD .NET then you could have two tests down for the MCSD. You could pick the elective for the MCSD (Designing and Implementing SQL Server 2000), which ends up fulfilling the requirement for the MCDBA. Then if you pass something like Designing Web Applications with C#/VB.NET you can use that to fulfill an elective for the MCDBA.

This is the strategy I am going to use when I start taking the tests in a few months.

Oops, I noticed an error in the first sentence of the second paragraph. I should have said "If you pass the MCSD .NET then you could have two tests down for the MCDBA".

Thanks for the reply. Certainly got something to think about. I guess I will have to start with the MCDBA then do the exams which cross over to the MCSD.
