Can someone please help with a very simple question, I would be most grateful,

I need to set up a computer in a laser room, and another computer outside the laser room (Safety reasons) that can tap into the laser room computer. I want to keep these computers off my network.

So can I just buy a crossover cable and hook them up? what IP address` should I assign to them? is it this easy? I will use remote control software once they are hooked up, thats the easy part!

I need to get this up and running by Friday...Thanks

It should be easy enough although this really isn't a question for the cabling forum.

The crossover cable will give you the connectivety you need, just ensure that the subnet masks of both machines are the same and that the IP addresses correspond to this, eg;

PC1
IP 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
PC2
IP 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0

Thankyou, most helpful....

Why is this message in the wrong forum? its a question about cabling?

No problem.

Technically it's a question about networking rather than cabling.

another way to go is to run solid cable from point to point and terminate to a jack terminate one jack as 568a the other as 568b use standard patch cords and your set.

I dont think the question is inapropriate for this forum.
