Is there a way to create simple crosshatches in the interior of a shape? I know there is something in effects>brushstrokes but I can't get that to work right now. If I remember correctly, it didn't do exactly what I needed the last time I played with it.

I just need very basic evenly spaced diagonal bars. Thanks for the help.

I am going to have to create the swatch? I looked through the various swatch libraries, most of which have no pattern swatches and didn't find the simple crosshatch I need.

Look in the Illustrator folder, under Presets (at least in CS it is), then there are a boatload of pattern swatches in the Patterns directory.

This is the location in XP for CS:

C:/Program Files/adobe/Illustrator CS/Presets/Patterns/Basic Graphics

(Try copying that line and pasting it into your browser)

If you want the main directory, just use the "Up" button or remove the last part of the line:

C:/Program Files/adobe/Illustrator CS/Presets/Patterns
