Hi there :)

Does anyone know if it's possible to read 50Gb tapes originally written using the SC50 drive and Echo 1Safe (3.6.24) with software compression, by now using ADR50 drive with the same software?

I ask as my original SC50 drive no longer recognises that is has a tape in it, the replacement SC50 I found on ebay has chewed 2 of my tapes, and I now have a ADR50 with SCSI 68pin adapter to try and salvage the data on the final cartridge. Basically I dont want to blow my last chance! :O

Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

With thanks and best wishes

kaon, No, the ADR50 and SC50 use different read and write mechanisms, so reading information written by an SC50 by an ADR50 is not possible. Sorry, Greg.

Hi Greg

Thank you for replying to my post (both of them - sorry about that..)

I've been quoted £400 (approx) by one company, and £800-£2500 by another to simply extract the data from one full and working ADR50 tape as written by the SC50 and Echo 1Safe 3.6. Is this the best deal I can hope for? As you know my orginal SC50 drive is down, and I dont want to risk another ebay purchase in case it chews my last back up.

What would you recommend?

Many thanks and best wishes

Well, pretty much this is the situation you're going to find yourself in. If you contact computer conversions ( they might be able to give you a better price, but that is here in the US. Their email is data911@computer-conversions.com. If you get in touch with Lee, the president. Tell him I said hi.
Thanks, Greg.
