Configuration:
Windows 2003 AD Root and 2 child domains with trusts to NT 4.0. Exchange 2003 lives in 2 child domains. Exchange 5.5 lives in NT 4.0
Single Exchange 2003 / Exchange 5.5 Organization
Two Admin Groups each with a routing group
Front-End and one Back-end in Admin Group 1
Front-End and three Back-Ends in Admin Group2
Situation:
We are testing for migration from E5.5 to E2K3. All logons are by UPN to E2K3 mailboxes. A user can connect by FQDN to FE in Admin 1 (child domain 1)and get OWA mail from any server in the domain. The same is true for a user in Admin 2 (child domain 2). The problem is when a user from Admin 1 (child domain 1) tries to connect to FE of Admin 2 (child domain 2)to retrieve mail from child domain 2. The user gets 2 authentication boxes and then the following error message:
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable.
We have tried a mixture of permissions. The network is fully routed. No problem with DNS name resolution. We have been on hold with Microsoft all afternoon. What should we look for?
