Cross Connection Recommendation Sought

The telco drops off our service on a 66-block. We then have to cross connect to a Cat6 patch panel. This is a new issue. Normally, we would cross from the 66 to a 110. What is the best method of crossing between the 66 and a patch panel? Do we install a modular jack on the com-room wall? Do we take the cross connect wire and crimp it to an RJ45 cap? Do we cut open a patch cord and and Frankenstein a cable between? All of these will work but, what is the best practice?

Going strictly with the arrangement as described, 2 options come to mind:

. Make patch cords using 8P8C plugs on one end and leave the other end un-terminated. Plug the 8P8C into the patch panel and punch down the appropriate wires on the 66 block.

. Wire each line to an intermediate 8P8C jack and use regular patch cords to connect to the patch panel.

You can't use stranded wire on a 66 block, and I don't like using solid wire for "patch cables", so I would go with running solid wire from the 66 block to one jack at the patch panel, and then a flex patch cord from there to the out-going jack. Depending on the number of lines, I would either use 1 well marked patch panel with all the incoming on the left and the outgoing on the right or use 2 separate panels with one for incoming and 1 for outgoing.

Actually I prefer to run my voice and data lines separate, with the voice lines landing on a 66 block then cross-connected to the telco block, but apparently you are already stuck with the CAT6 to 66 block transition.

Here is another option....This type of 66 block has modular jacks on the sides. Cross-wire from the LEC 66 block to this block and then run your patch cords the to patch panel.

You could also use a 25 pair cable punched onto the 66 and then run over to another patch panel in the rack and just patch from panel to panel. you can even by panels that already have the amphenol connector on them and just connect 25 pair to that.

Likewise. Ebay is littered with 8-pin patch panels for less than $1 a port. We just run a 25-pr cable to the 66 block and break out each pair to a port or two on the patch panel. It's also great for bunching lines to more than one port for those places that need T&R in an extra jack for credit cards, etc.
