Hi

I have a problem--im fairly new to illustrator and recently made an illustration which i want to incorporate with a flash website--the problem im having though is that i cant seem to get rid of the illustration outside of the artboard--i used the transform effect to create a circular pattern which i filled with an art brush stroke--in order to have the pattern fill the artboard, being its circular, i had to extend its size--the object im transforming is merely a small triangle which i rotated and made 30 copies of and illustrator keeps it as such--ive tried exporting to photoshop which immediately rasterized the pattern(of course i could then easily crop it)and to flash which turned it into a mess of individual blocks-which i could theoretically delete-however it would take forever and the file size is quite large--i tried importing it to freehand--nothing seems to work--why doesnt illustrator automatically get rid of everything outside of the artboard or at least have a decent cropping tool? please i think there must be a simple answer and i want to keep everything as vectors

thanks

Try drawing a rectangle over your artwork, then:

1. Select > All
2. Object > Clipping Mask > Make

The stuff outside the rectangle is still there, but it's now hidden. You could also try using the Pathfinder tools, depending on your artwork. See the online help for more details.
