How can I get cron to open windows... Typically, all I/O cron does is either piped to a location, piped to dev null or mailed (the typical default) which means that it can't actually launch a window. I want to open a window at a given time to a given display that I have permission to. In specific I'd live to cron

xine on display :0.1

Any ideas?

AFAIK cron doesn't like calls to terminals, so I don't think it's feasible. That's not to say that others might disagree.....

Ah, got it myself... Grrr, miss the obvious...
Code:
xterm -display :0 -e xine
So, this will execute xine (and an xterm window) from script or cron job as long as the user the job runs under has permission to the display :0. then to move it to where I want it, I can just pass other arguments... I hate it when I solve it just after I ask for help.

hehehe you never stop getting knowlegment. Thanks for post your solution!
