As a long-time user of Impromptu, I am accustomed to being able to insert objects in a report footer that do not directly relate to displayed list column data. From the classes I have had on CRN and my limited playing with the product I am not sure how to do this. An example would be showing a list-driven income statement with profit shown as a difference between income and expense accounts, where the data itself did not contain offsetting signs (positive and negative). I would normally create a calculated column for profit, but only display it in the report footer as a summary.

Any ideas?

Just curious, Did you figure this one out? I have come to the conclusion that Impromptu 7.4 may be easier for upgrading reports existing on impromptu rather than trying to re-create all the Cognos 8 reports when you are unable to use the migration tool.
You cannot upgrade the .imr's easily if there are massive smartfiles being used. I have a co. that has about 35 catalogs, and about 1000 reports total. They need to goto c8, but almost all the most critical reports use smartfiles and hotfiles in various locations, but mostly in the same location. The migration tool doesn't seem to address the smartfiles properly for upgrading.
I am finding that re-creating the reports, is like a nightmare, because it is like creating a new webpage everytime you create a report, unlike Impromptu, where it wasn't so involved for a complex report.
Impromptu is definitely easier to maintain and create reports with. Do you agree or disagree? How do you feel about the C8 product for replacing Impromptu reports when there are over 1000 reports to upgrade? C8 seems mostly for analysis and to time consuming for report development, but has alot of bells and whistles for the co. that doesn't have alot to develop.

Guess I am venting today....
