Critical Milestone text not turning red

I have stumbled on an interesting issue and hope someone can help. I am using MS Project 2003 Standard. In my schedule, I have milestone tasks that are on the critical path and the text is black. The diamond in the Gantt is red. I looked in the Text Styles menu for "Critical Milestone" so I can make the text red, but there is no selection, and I don't want to manually change the color. My question is if anyone knows how to add a new item to the Text Styles menu.

I had never noticed that before! But you're right: a milestone on the critical path does not get its text changed to the same colour as tasks on the critical path.

Unfortunately (at least for P2003 -- don't have P2007 or later on this machine), there is no way to add a new element to the list of text items.

You are left, as you say, with having to manually update the text for each milestone on a case-by-case basis.

You could also do this with VBA and link the code to the File Open event so that every time someone opened the file the macro would go through setting the text colour for Milestones that are flagged as Critical to red and resetting other Milestones to the colour black.

Thanks PDQBach. I appreciate the quick response. I was afraid you would come back with the answer you gave me. I will see what I can do with a macro, or just change them manually.

I played around for a bit and have a "sort of" workaround.

Project > Filtered For > More filters...
Click on Critical
Click on the Highlight button

If you don't like the colour (default is blue) then
Click on Format > Text Styles...
Choose "Highlighted tasks"
Set the colour to red.

That works. Thank you very much for the extra effort. I really appreciate it. In the critical filter, I also had to un-check the "Show Related Summary Rows" box, plus I added an 'and' statement where Summary Equals No in the Critical filter.

Glad it worked. I *tend* to always show the summary tasks -- glad you were able to make it work for you.
