Hello Everybody!

On several Systems I got a message from EMS. See the fragment down below. On all Systems the same HW-Path (CD-ROM Device) is affected. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Event data from monitor:

Event Time..........: Fri Dec 6 08:06:22 2002
Severity............: CRITICAL
Monitor.............: disk_em
Event #.............: 13
System..............: host@domain

Summary:
Disk at hardware path 10/0/14/0.0.0 : I/O request failed.

Description of Error:

As part of the polling functionality, the monitor periodically requests
data from the device. The monitor's I/O request failed in this case. The
monitor was requesting data for Test Unit Ready command.

This is just a guess:

It looks to me like EMS thinks there is a disk in the CDROM drive that can give it an IO. On systems that aren't giving out this error message, it could be that this test isn't set to run.

If there is nothing wrong with the CD drive, I'd try to turn off EMS monitoring.

I get a message like this occasionally about an autoloader. But when I back up to the autoloader, there isn't a problem.

I would not turn off the EMS Monitoring. It is to valuable a tool to have switched off!!!

How do you expect to know when you have a problem with your system if it is not running? These errors are a pain, but try to stop them rather than stopping EMS.

I would suggest commenting out the CD Drive from your /etc/fstab file and hoping that this works first.

Best regards

That's what I meant -- turn off monitoring of the CD drive.

Hi,

I think that your problem may be patch related. What are your OS version(s) and your patch version(s) and are they all patched the same. Do you get the message at regular intervals?
