I have a BCM400 3.6 with a temperature alarm on the front. The system status monitor shows TEMPERATURE OFF. The switch room is at approx. 70 degrees, not hot at all, both fan units in the BCM appear to be functioning properly and the BCM alarm banner shows a CRITICAL alarm EVENT ID:3012. Any ideas, I was considering changing the single power suppply first?

I've swapped power supplies, new power cords and new A/C outlets, no luck.

Any patches in the system? There were SSM patches a while back that resolved some invalid temperature/fan messages that were bring logged. Those are included in cumulative patch 3 for 3.6, so if you've already installed that, then that's not the issue. If not, I'd suggest applying those patches.

We had a customer with a fan light problem. We installed the update and no more problems.

This system has been up and running for a few years now. You would think that this problem would have arisen by now. Now the power light and hard drive light go red for a second and then green again, very inconsistent. We do not have cumulative patch 3 on the BCM, I will load it first thing in the a.m.

Our customer did'nt have any problems until recently.

I have since telneted into the BCM and tested the System Status monitor and it told me that the local temp was "Above Tol 42C, 107F and that the fan had failed the test." I replaced the fan unit and still have the alarms and the test still fails. I also have 4 other BCMs in the lab that all pass the temp. verification. I have been unable to find the location in the BCM that tells you what, if any patches are installed? I am still planning on installing the 3.6 cum patch in the am, I've tried everything else....

To see what patches have been put in go to Maintenance then to System Information then to Detailed Inventory then to Applied Patches Inventory.

Thank you, the cumulative patch has not been installed as suspected.

I installed the cumulative patch 3 this am and the temp. alarm is back. However, when I telnet into the BCM and test the System Status Monitor it still says Local Temp. Above Tol. 42C, Fan1 Speed Above Tol. 5040 RPM,
Fan Test Failed...
Fan1 Failed in Tolerance 30...
Fan1 Failed in Tolerance 50...
Fan1 Failed in Tolerance 70...
Temp Test Failed at 42C...

What to do, What to do...
I've already replaced the power supply, fan1 and added cumulative patch 3.

I've had many fail the test and they are still running fine after a year or so. I think it's a case of the boy that cried wolf.

Me too, its just something you like to have an answer for when the customer is calling....

Are all the slot covers on or do they have a Mod in them, I find that even if I only have 1 cover off when I do the fan test it will fail the test.

All covers are on, now the power and HD light flash from time to time. I ordered a 3.7 upgrade, hopefully that may clear up the issue.

I have this issue at 3 BCM300 3.6 sites as well with no definative resolution but the alarm was resolved at 2 of the sites. Have you tried powering down the BCM then disconnecting and then reconnecting all power feeds to the I/O card and also any power feeds to hard drives and modules. Then power up. We too have tried replacing power supply but at the same time this was also performed. When test the power supply in another system do not get alarm so suspect power supply is not the problem as you have also found. In my case the alarm occurs for unknown reason and is eventually cleared for an unknown reason. I have still not been able to resolve the alarm with a common fix - will get there in the end though. Let me know how you go?

Just to add to the above notes. I have also found that the error appears to only be affected on single power supply systems in my investigations so far?

This may be your answer. Patch was released after CP3.

BCM_360.169_SSM.11.370205

The following issue is addressed:

1. Chassis Fan Light is Red
This patch resolves a problem where a red fan light incorrectly appears on
the chassis.

Thanks BIV343. The above patch that you have mentioned appears to be included in the Cumulative patch 3 with the Q01088216 fix included. I have had sites with the same problem before and after loading Cumulative patch 3 the problem still occurred? Still looking for a definative answer on this error.

Didn't notice that. I saw in the patch library that the patch was listed after CP3 was released, which usually means it wasn't included. I didn't check to see if it was included in CP3 or not.

Well my system finally decided to crash over the weekend even after all of the effort to try and save it. Had to call Nortel, replaced the BFT, moved over the original MSC and all is alive and well. No more alarms....
