I had and access DB & Crytal reports which are working fine in 97 version. I converted to 2000 and in my crystal report and I am trying to SET THE LOCATION TO THE ACCESS 2000 location. IT IS ASKING FOR ACCESS PASSWORD. I din't set any password. I went into tools-security there is no password set. IAm able to open the DB properly without password. But when I open the crystal report and refresh to get the data or call the report from the access it is asking for the password. WHen I canceled the password box I got this error.

"DB has been placed in a state by user 'ADMIN' on machine'xyx' 'CA0050524' that prevents it from being opened or locked"

and lateron it gave be DBTRV.dll can't be opened? Please find its configuration.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT. LET me confirm I didn't set any password to my DB.

Hey Bhargi,

When you say you upgraded to 2000, did you install the database to the same directory as the 97 install?

It may be that the user Crystal is using to view the database doesn't have permissions to access all the folders that is necessary to open to get to the database. It may be one of the folders has security on it - not the database.

To find out, try copying the database to another location - like at the root of the drive, for instance. Then try and reconnect Crystal to the copy. What do you get?

I just had the same problem... miserable thing. The problem was with the ODBC configuration

Here's help on it:
Getting Prompted for a login when opening a Report with a unsecured database

The information in the article refers to:
Seagate Crystal Reports 7

Applies to:

Reported version only
Database Issues when connecting via Native connection either in the Report Designer or through OCX
MS Access MDAC 4.1, MS Access (no security)
MS Access Open Session box

Synopsis

When opening a report with an unsecured database (for example, craze.mdb), a prompt appears to enter the user name and password whenever the report data is refreshed (for example, entering preview mode.) The database is not secured and can be opened in Access without any login info. The same thing happens with any other report that has been developed. However, if the report is launched through the OCX in the software project, it opens the database okay. Only the report designer IDE has an issue.

If another NT partition is used where the 16-bit version of Seagate Crystal Reports (SCR) is installed, the same reports may be opened and accessed without any problems. The only version that is not working is the 32-bit version of SCR.

Solution

First, the ODBC Administrator was opened and reported that there was a problem with
ODBC DLL versions not matching. Therefore, the ODBC setup was executed (Odbcst32.exe) and selected the Access driver on the drivers tab. The applet then asked for confirmation that to replace the existing driver version 4.00.420200 with version 2.99.1731. Select No, cancel. The program seemed to still copy other files before exiting, and a warning was given to restart the machine. Since the task was cancelled, the machine did not have to be restarted, and the issue was resolved.

Thanks Guys,
I have 97 and 2000 installed on 2 different PC's. I don't have any problem in running 97 version & crystal reports.

Crazy thing is I am able to open the crystal reports Via access 2002 after setting the DB location.I did open the Crystal reports from the Access 2002DB more than once. suddenly my reports doesn't open and then I go to crystal report to what's the problem. Sometimes I get the set password message sometimes I don't get.

Hey Mike, do you want me to download the ODBCSt32.exe?? I didn't see that Driver on my 2002 machine. Your article refers to CR Version 7 and Iam running on 8.5. Does ODBC dll still holds good??

THANKS AGAIN.

I wouldn't suggest it, only because you indicate an intermittent password request- I think this solution works for more consistent issues. Not that I don't think it would help, a systematic approach would demand it, I just doubt the problem would be there... Anyway, you have a good point- it is for 7, and may now work as well on 8+. It soulds like you have something else going on. Perhaps a version conflict somewhere? Michael Phipps

Thanks Mike,
I was able to resolve this Password asking problem if I close my access application form which calls it. Once the form is closed I am able to work in the crystal report without any dll erros & prompts . But still I will try contact Crystal Report Support.
