At home I'm running Windows 98 and IE5.

I've bought a number of items from companies that I presume have decent security (e.g. Amazon)

I have been informed recently, however, that there was a foreign program on my home PC that was monitoring my keystrokes (worryingly my card details??)

Does anyone know anymore about this program? Is it true that it exists or could exist on my PC, and how would I go about getting rid of such programs and not allowing them back

Thanks

Yes, the concept of keystroke logging exists, and was used to 'good' effect in africa a while back:

Was a particular spyware program discovered on your PC?
If so, what's it called?

More information may allow us to provide better advice.

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

You need to load and run AdAware and the other spy/spam ware tools. Check some of the other posts to see what everyone is using. Also ensure that you have something like ZoneAlarm or another firewall tool. This way you can see what's going on while you're on the internet. You can block some of the programs and keep others out of your PC.

And if you really think you're credit card was captured you better get with the company and request a new number and watch for any strange transactions.
