Is there a way of immediately validating/processing credit card transactions from an application? I am aware that processing can be handled (in the UK) by BACS software and that web applications can use the likes of NetBanx to do this as a hosted service. However, ideally I want to build this into an application (not web based) where any connection to a remote service is as seamless as possible.

I fully expect that this will involve a third party application or component.

Thanks in advance.

Dunno...

You could try contacting the likes of WorldPay et all to see if they have some form of component...

mmilan.

Hi Glasgow,

We use a company called Servebase.com (UK Based)

They facilitate batch processing of card transactions and other sorts of direct tcp/ip connection.

We currently use them to process our credit cards in batches. I made an access application to create a file that is sent to them Via FTP.
You can do many different types of transactions with them as they have a large variety of scheme files to use.

I know they also have software that you can use in house. If you dont have the time to do this yourself.

If you need a contact name email me

Im sure you could try these guys out.

cheers
brendan

Thanks gents.

Brendan - it's the batch concept that I really want to move away from - I need the sort of response that could be expected when using a standard swipe machine or when completeing a standard internet purchase. I guess it's not a lot different to accepting web based payments but I need to know:

a) what software components are available to upload/download transaction and authorisation details.
b) What sort of costs/arrangements have to be set up with third parties such as PSP's, banks etc.

If you are able to pass on a contact name, that would be great but I am happy to explore their web site otherwise. They certainly look like a possible contender.

Hi Glasgow,

Im pretty sure they do a "realtime" mode system also, though we dont use it at present as batching suits us just fine. They have a few different system setups so just ask, they may have what you need.

Ive seen only bit and pieces of their software, but essentially they have a program which allows you to view auths/charges, transaction history and all that if needed.

With regards to Setups with banks, if you already have a merchant account setup then its pretty straight forward.

There were some setup fees initially, but compared to web-based CC transaction systems it was considerablly cheaper, miles in fact! ;)

Our contact was Mark Waterhouse (sales manager) just give them a shout and see how you get on.

all the best

brendan
ps. I dont work for them, have just been using their software for the last 2+ years, with very few problems if any.

Thanks Brendan. Sounds hopeful. I will make contact.

I have come across quite a few check utilities of the type strongm describes. I have also come across a couple of products at componentsource.com - IP*Works! CC and CCProcessing but not sure if these are suitable for UK use or if that has any bearing.

Oh - a Luhn check only takes a few lines of VB code; it's very simple, and I sure as heck wouldn't pay anyone money for a component to do it.

Strongm - I agree! Although I have not investigated the precise nature of such a check, I had always assumed it would be simple - some sort of moudulo whatsit!?

Servebase finally came back (after a month) but appear to be a contender. Other possible runners are:

ICP from Ipos - CC Card from Comms XL -
Final decision will be customer's and some months off I suspect. They all do pretty much the same thing - offering solutions via Internet where their own servers effectively act as bureau and post transactions to banks or direct solutions where their software posts directly to bank via PSTN, ISDN or X25.

Just wanted to throw another company out there that we use for our customers.

Validates CC transactions via the net, get a authorization code in about 1-2 seconds. Very fast.
