have a clinic with ip phones and g250 gateway tied back to a call manager w/3.01 software. fax machines work fine attached to the gateway, but not able to get an electronic check/credit card machine to work over it. have contacted avaya and have their suggested settings in place on the codec. g250 has the latest version of firmware on it also. any one else had problems like this or have any suggestions?

thanks, tim

on the "IP Codec" set, page 2, used for that Network Region, try setting "modem" to "pass through"

it is set to pass-through.

i have contacted to check machine vendor to see if they can turn the baud rate down to around 9600 on the machine. right now it is trying to connect at around 32k.

thanks, tim

you'll never get that baud rate through the switch, 9600 is about it, you might get lucky once in a while and get 14.4 to work, but thats about it.

If you have a POTS line, I would just used that for the credit card machine, or try routing it out over a POTS line trunk group, you can do that by FRL/COR, you will probably have better luck with that.

ok, i will push them to change the baud rate on the machine then.

all our outgoing local calls go out over a regular pots line trunk group already. we use them for emergency backup phones if we were to lose power.

thanks, tim

what i have had to do in the past is put the modem in a differenct codec set so you can change to codec between sites to use the eniter 64k and not the 8k normally used over the wan. this has worked pretty well.

is there a way to put an individual line off a media gateway into a specific codec? it looks like everything on a specific gateway has to be in the same network region, which means the same codec....

thanks, tim

i typically pu the phones in one NR and the Gxxx in anonther. have the G250 and its NR a differnt codec. use a codec of 711 and your set.....but if you have a bunch of things on that gateway maybe it wont work for you. i also usually tell the local phones to talk to that local gateway on a NR that uses G711 as well, as i rarely encounter bandwith problems on the local LAN. i have a customer with 15 G350's all using WAN to go back to G450 where PRI is and eac site has a credit card machine. when it was set for 729a it didnt work. as soon as i changed it to G711 it works flawlessly for monhs now.

the problem i have is that i need to use fax and modem on the same gateway. the info i read in lan admin guide says they need to use different setting in the codec.....did you get faxes and modems working off the same gateway? if so, can you paste the codec, both pages?

thanks, tim

could it be as basic as make sure tests are set to n on the station?

probs not but worth a punt..
