Hey all,

I have version 6.0 Professional (Macintosh) and I am having the following trouble with regards to batch processing. I have 80 or so PDFs that I want to run through a custom sequence as follows:

1) Open Document
2) Remove Security W/ Password: XYZ
3) Insert Pages After Last
4) Find ALL References to WWW.[My Domain].COM And Create A Link
5) Add New Security Features W/ Password: XYZ
6) Close Document

You'd think this would be rather simple to set up but I'm having the most trouble in the world setting this up. At this point I have everything but step 4. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I have to code this in JavaScript? Is there a Hack?

Thanks for the help!

The problem with text processing like that is the strings may not in fact be contiguous strings inside the PDF (they may look that way, but not be internally).

I've accomplished that task in PostScript by redefining all of the show/xshow etc. operators to concantenate all incoming strings, and once a URL has been built, to insert a pdfmark operator for a link.

Thomas,

Thanks for the response. LOL, as much as I thought I knew about AA... well, let's just say my head hurts from reading your response.

Any chance I can get you to dumb that down for me? Are you saying that I CAN accomplish step for now that all the documents are pdf or no? Please advise.

Sorry... I was saying "no", not likely you can do that through Acrobat. I had to resort to some pretty complicated programming in PostScript over a few weeks to accomplish about 95% accuracy of finding urls and email address and converting them into hyperlinks.

The project was for a telephone directory on CD, where they wanted me to process the actual page images, making all the links "live".

I couldn't find a way to do it well with Acrobat.

Thanks for the help. Ironically, the project is for a catalog which we did through a marketing group. We're planning on doing another one, but this time in house. None of us know for sure (as I'll probably be sent to training on whatever software package we choose) if Quark and/or InDesign allow you to do a search and replace and then aftwarwards carry that change over to PDFs. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you for that insight. So I'm guessing that you're an InDesign fan?
