Creating your own .vdx files

Hello,

Does anyone know how I can go about creating my own .vdx files? I have checked the Visio SDK, and it looks quite confusing! I also looked at a Visio drawing saved as xml, and I am thinking there may be a lot more information in there than I actually need to draw some boxes with lines connected to them!

I am hoping someone has some simple examples, or some good reference books?
